St Andrews Day Concert

Hi to all. Just a reminder that tonight Beckworth will be hosting a major event to celebrate the birthday of St Andrew (The patron saint of Scotland and Golf courses). Local Scottish residents have auctioned off a balsa-wood replica of The Stone Of Scone and hired the scout hut. Once again the top Scottish father and son band The Proclaimers are booked to perform, but after almost failing to appear last year the duo are hitching this year. In 2014 they’d walked all the way to our St Andrew gig, which is 500 miles or so from their “sunshine” retirement home in Leith. Craig Proclaimer just texted me to say they are just crossing the border, so if they get the lifts they should be here tonight. Just a reminder that tonight Beckworth will be pushing the boat out in order to celebrate the birthday of St Andrew (The patron saint of Scotland, Greece, Russia and Golf) in some style. A committee of Scottish and Communist plate-throwing residents have clubbed together to hire the scout hut and got top Scottish father and son band The Proclaimers to perform. To save money the band are walking all the way to the gig (500 miles or so) from their “sunshine” retirement home in Leith near Glasgow, so if you can’t make the gig you may seem them on shanks pony coming to town. Tickets they are selling like hot haggis, i’m told the committee have even had letters from America requesting some. See you there, G. Grimsby. Mayor and big fan Scottish duos

The Proclaimers Are Back From 500 Mile Walk For Charity

Hello all. Just to let you know that local singing duo The Proclaimers will be hosting a sing-along slide show and bring-and-buy sale tomorrow evening at the WI in Beckworth village hall. The identical twins, Reg and Rory McReid are just back from a sponsored 500 mile walk. They had intended it to be John O’Groats to Lands End by bike but someone stole their tandem just outside Wick. The brothers, who have been firm friends since meeting at school, have promised to regail us with rivetting stories of how they have combined running a successful bicycle repair shop with having a glittering pop career. Topics will include puncture repairs, saddle height adjustments and how to write songs about banal everyday events (who else could write a chart hit about receiving wrongly addressed airmail from the USA). Entry is only £25 and non-WI members are welcome. Providing refreshments in the interval will be father and son caterers Heston Blumenthal and Anthony Worrall-Thompson.
