Hello all. I just wanted to share the offers some of Beckworth’s forward-thinking local traders are offering today in celebration of Black Friday… I’m told that Abdul’s The Chemist are offering a saving of 10% on all flavoured condoms and novelty mouthwash purchased alongside any NHS prescription… Knossos Kebabs have a 50p reduction on all kebabs if customers use the code KRAP19… Anglican Windows are offering a free door with any 30 plastic windows paid in full today… There’s half-price entry to the Banana Museum… The Lesbian And Gay And Bi-Sexual Society will be having cocktails and fannytails in the scout hut tonight (not sure if this to do with Black Friday or not?)…. Beckworth Police have a sale on their very popular “pre-loved” truncheons and handcuffs… The scouts are offering half-price “bob-a-job” when they get back home from school… The Blind Badger pub will be opening until 1am with discounts on out-of-date bar snacks… Master Gregs The Grocers are giving “a cuddle from Greg Wallace” away with every 2kg of carrots… and Fawkes Funerals have 10% off all 2nd hand coffins if ordered before 4pm today… So you’ve lots of reasons to shop locally today and support Beckworth High Street… Yours sincerely, Valerie Saddleworth CBE. D-Day Preparations Today
Dear all, just a reminder that tomorrow the scouts, cubs and guides (in addition to the Beckworth re-enactors) will be re-enacting, in real time, the D-Day landings, just as we did five years ago. To prepare and rehearse many streets of Beckworth will be closed today and Sainsco carpark will be out of service just in case the visiting president of the USA and family drop by to watch and need somewhere to park their long cars. Scout leader Sir Bob-bob-bob-dib-dib-dib Geldof will put his “troops” through their final paces to perfectly act out the Allie’s beach landing on the school playing fields (weather permitting). It’s only taken over 5 months rehearsing, but the boys and girls are now almost word perfect. The men, women and gender fluid members of the Beckworth & Crewbury Historical Re-enactors will be enthusiastically playing the Germans, which they did with such relish in 2014 (even hospitalising some of the “enemy”). Tomorrow promises to be a moving day out for all the family who can skive off work and school.
See you “on the beaches.” Thanks Tony Grimsby, Group Scout Leader
Beckworth Bob-A-Job Bingo Week
Dear all, just a gentle reminder that this half-term holiday it’s Bob-A-Job week, so please, no hiding when the cubs, scouts, brownies and guides come knocking. This week, in addition to the usual door to door protection rackets, extortion and black mail, the children will be trying to raise vast amounts of money playing a game of their own invention, bob-a-job “doorstep” bingo. I am unclear of the rules but am told it should be lots of fun. I must also stress that due to the childrens’ ages this falls outside of the gaming laws so please treat it as a bit of fun (i.e. there’s no come back back if you don’t get full house). So please give generously, as the children want to build a soft- play area (to be named in honour of their leader Lord Bob Geldof) with the proceeds.
Thanks Tony Grimsby, Group Scout Leader

D-Day Re-Enactment This Friday
Dear all, just a reminder that this Friday the scouts and guides will be re-enacting, in real time, the D-Day landings. It’s seventy years to the day of this historical occasion and in remembrance regional scout leader Sir Bob-bob-bob-dib-dib-dib Geldof has trained his “troops” to perfectly act out the Allie’s beach landing on the school playing fields (weather permitting). It’s only taken 6 months rehearsing, but the boys and girls are now word perfect. The Beckworth & Crewbury Historical Re-enactors will be enthusiastically playing the Germans and it promises to be a moving day out for all the family.
See you “on the beaches.” Thanks Tony Grimsby, Group Scout Leader
