Wear A Plume In Your Hat Tomorrow

Hello my flock. What a busy week i’m having, but as they say there’s no rest for the wicked! Today Church Warden Noddy Holder and I are hoovering up the mountains of ash from yesterday’s service and then decorating the vestry with dead birds in readiness of tomorrow’s Feast of St Norris. We will be holding a memorial service at 11ish, and all religious denominations are welcome as St Norris is venerated by many faiths. Please remember to wear a feather in your hat to celebrate his kind deeds to birds and his invention of the carrier pigeon back in the 15th century. In his honour, after the service, we will heed the words of the pox-riddled Pope Jeremy XI (who canonised Norris as the Patron Saint of Pigeons and Guinea Fowl) who declared that on 12th February “we should cast aside carnal thoughts by wearing feathers atop our sinful bodies and by clearing up bird sh*t. With our hands” So see you tomorrow morning sporting your finest plumage. God Bless You and Norris. Cyril Knutsford, Vicar, Beckworth St Faiths

Ash Wednesday Service

Hello my flock. Just to let you know that this morning’s Ash Wednesday Service will be starting, God permit, at the slightly later time of 2.15pm this afternoon. This is due to me suffering from the after-effects of too many pancakes and communion wine with the Bishop last night. As is tradition during the service church warden Noddy Holder will be tipping ash onto all attendees as they kneel to pray, so please don’t wear your posh clothes or charge us for any subsequent dry cleaning. I look forward to seeing you all this afternoon, though I may be a tad subdued due to my headache and sickness.

May your God be with you, Cyril Knutsford. Vicar. Beckworth St Faiths

Come & Try Yoga In The Vestry

Hello my flock. Just to remind you that tonight I am launching yoga classes in the church for the over 18s. I have done a few days training with a Church of England Yogi (a yoga teacher) from the mystical east, Norwich, and am now fully qualified to teach Anglican positions. So come along and sample a few key moves such as Climbing The Mount Of Olives, Picking Fruit With Adam & Eve, Clambering Aboard The Ark and then Dowsing The Burning Bush. For more advanced movers I’ll teach The Upward Star and The Downward Parting Of The Waves, the Loaves & Fishes aka The Feeding Of The 5000 and The Father, Son & Holy Ghost Salutations. Then we’ll wind down and breathe easy with the Three Wisemen, a Water Into Wine and finish off with a Comfy Crucifixion and an Amen. See you at 7 for our first class, and please wear appropriate attire, bring a yoga mat and a large bottle of water.

May your God be with you, Cyril Knutsford. Vicar. Beckworth St Faiths

Midnight Mass This Evening

Hello my flock. Just to remind you that tonight’s Midnight Mass will be starting at the slightly earlier time of 6.15pm this evening due to the amount of good programmes on telly. And also i’m going to a party at 11 which i’m very excited about as they’re promising food and drink. And a roller disco. During the festive service Church warden Noddy Holder will be leading his “Slade Singers” in the carols and we’re hoping you will all bring festive fare to the church, such as mince pies and crackers, which we will distribute to the local homeless. Have a wonderful Christmas and look forward to seeing you all this evening.

May your God be with you, Cyril Knutsford. Vicar. Beckworth St Faiths

Remembrance Service Today

Dear flock. Just to remind you that today’s remembrance service will be at 2pm today, followed at 3.15 by a procession from the church to lay wreaths at the War Memorial. The procession will be led by myself and the regional head of scouting Sir Bob-bob-bob-dib-dib-dib Geldof leading his crack troupe of scouts, brownies and cubs.

Please join us for both the service and procession this afternoon. May your God be with you, Cyril Knutsford. Vicar. Beckworth St Faiths

All Hallows Service Today

Dear flock. Just to remind you that this morning’s All Hallows (All Saints) Day service will be starting after lunch at 2.15pm as I want to listen to Desert Island Discs. It is bound to be a most riveting programme as Marjorie Wallace is the stranded victim. Who I hear you ask? She is the gifted mental health campaigning daughter of Barnes Wallace, inventor of the bouncing-bomb and cats-eyes (those reflector things in roads, not a feline’s optics). She is also married to that funny man Wallace from the animated television series Wallace & Gromit.

Please gather outside the church at 2.10 and we will all skip into the church singing When The Saints Go Marching In accompanied by the local prison brass band (if they don’t all try to escape). Please remember to come to the service dressed as your favourite saint  and carry a carved-out tomato as a lantern, for as we know this is the ancient Christian tradition on All Hallows. See you all later today.

May your God be with you, Cyril Knutsford. Vicar. Beckworth St Faiths

Harvest Festival

Dear flock. Just to remind you that this evening’s Harvest Festival service will be starting at 5.45pm and finishing by 7pm so I can get home to watch both the Strictly Come Dancing and X Factor Result Shows. Thank God for such a wonderful Sabbath. If you stupidly turn up after 7pm and find the church locked please leave your harvest gifts in the church porch and i’ll sort out tomorrow morning. If you’ve got frozen goods, such as steaks, thin-crust pizzas and ice cream, please bring in a cool-bag to the vicarage on Monday. Have a wonderful Harvest and see you all later today.

May your God be with you, Cyril Knutsford. Vicar. Beckworth St Faiths

Easter Services This Easter

Hello my flock. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy Easter and to invite you to the services we are having this weekend. This evening at 7.30 will be the traditional Maundy Thursday Service. In accordance to the Holy teaching and to remember the last supper we will eat fish and chips in the pews and afterwards I will wash the feet and socks of members of the congregation. Tomorrow at 10am we will have our Good Friday service, including a blessing of baby chicks and lambs, followed by St Faith’s annual Multi Faith Good Friday Sports Day. Hosted by us every Easter to remember the time our Lord was crucified and then rolled away a stone to “rise again.” We will celebrate with all faiths, whether they believe in one God or numerous, and come together to share a love of competitive sports and finding cream-eggs hidden around the church yard. On Sunday we will have 4 Easter services, at 8am, 11am, 3pm and 6pm and Monday we will have a mass at 11am and a blind-fold egg and spoon race through the grave yard afterwards. I trust we will see you at most of the services. Happy Easter and God Bless You All. Cyril Knutsford, Vicar, Beckworth St Faiths

Celebrate The Patron Saint Of H2o’s Feast Day

Hello my flock. Tomorrow is the Feast Day of St Noah, the patron saint of water and we will be holding a memorial service in the morning at 7.15. During the mass we will be telling the story of Noah and the floods with many parishioners coming in couples and dressing up as the animals he rescued. Don’t worry if you can’t attend the wonderful aquatic service as I am asking people show their gratitude to Noah by overfilling baths and sinks, getting out hoses and water-logging gardens, blocking roadside drains, damning local rivers and streams to create mini floods all over the town and countryside. God Bless You All. Cyril Knutsford, Vicar, Beckworth St Faiths

St Norris’s Day This Evening

Hello my flock. Today is the Feast of St Norris and we will be holding a memorial service this evening at 7.45. During the mass we will be reflecting on his humble syphilitic life, his kind deeds to birds and tireless service to his home town of Bognor Regis, which he kept clean of guano with his bare hands. Norris died at the age of 32 after a protracted pustulous illness and was buried at the bottom of the town’s well as was customary in the 15th century. Upon hearing of his passing the pox-riddled Pope (Jeremy XI) canonised Norris as the Patron Saint of Pigeons and Guinea Fowl and declared that on 12th February “we should cast aside carnal thoughts by wearing feathers atop our sinful bodies and by clearing up bird sh*t. With our hands” The latter we will perform in the dark after we’ve had tea and biscuits post service. Young and old parishioners are welcome, although the service will include some scenes of mild nudity and swearing. And please remember to wear feather in your hat in celebration of Norris. So see you this evening sporting your finest plumage. God Bless You. Cyril Knutsford, Vicar, Beckworth St Faiths
